2022 Award

Supplying excellence in dementia care

This highly respected care and support provider achieved the Award in 2016 for its Living in My World Dementia Programme, which aimed at enhanced delivery of care to residents with dementia. The programme has since been reviewed and developed to become a recognised brand in the business. 5000+ staff members have been through the programme since its establishment, 83% of staff have completed training and a new ‘Dementia Ambassador’ role has been created.

Creating a culture of inclusivity and support

This respected care provider created an in-house programme to train overseas recruits to become nurses and address a national skills shortage. As well as securing a valuable workforce, Caring Homes has created a culture of inclusivity, fully supporting international trainees to pass the required exam whilst offering wider pastoral support. Pass rates for 2020-21 have increased by 11% compared to previous years.

Chef Development Programme: Transforming understanding of special diets

This care and support provider, with a network of care facilities across the UK, launched the Chef Development Programme in 2017 in response to the need for a better understanding of diets for those suffering from dysphagia or dementia. It has succeeded in upskilling staff to transform their food preparation and presentation and there are plans to roll out the programme to all 36 homes.

This organisation developed a Future Leadership programme to upskill managers and to meet industry criteria. Results include positive performance in inspections with two care homes reaching the highest accolade, reduced staff turnover and positive feedback from both relatives and employees.

Equipping staff to work with dementia patients

An example of how a care home group has trained staff to understand and deal with dementia with dignity. This has resulted in reduced levels of aggression in patients, better relationships with patients’ families and approaches from other agencies and GPs to undertake the training.
