Recognition Renewal

Have you already achieved the Princess Royal Training Award and want to apply for the same training programme after three or more years?

If so, you’re in the right place.

We are encouraging previous recipients to apply to have the same programme’s recognition renewed to show that your training continues to evolve and that it’s still meeting your strategic goals.

The process is almost exactly the same as applying for a programme for the first time. Please see Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) below.

Don’t forget these are evidence based Awards so please ensure you provide evidence to support your application in the same way as before.

Recognition Renewal Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I renew my Princess Royal Training Award after 3 or more years?

If you’re wanting to renew the same programme, you need to complete the online application form in the usual way. Register your interest now to get access to the application form.

Is there a specific online application form for a renewal?

No, please complete the usual application form. There is a box to tick saying it’s a renewal, but otherwise the application form is the same as for first time and all other applicants.

How do I know if I'm ready to renew as our programme has changed?

You have to complete the application form and supply evidence to support each of the Hallmarks in the usual way. If you don’t think you have enough evidence to support all the Hallmarks, it could be better to wait another year or more until you have the evidence you need. For example, if you’re running an apprenticeship programme and have become an Employer Provider in the last year or so, you’ll need to make sure you’ve had enough apprentices go through your programme to be able to demonstrate impact on the participants and also on your organisation. Please contact the PRTA team if you have any concerns.

The programme that achieved the Award has changed significantly. Shall I still apply for renewal?

Please contact the PRTA team for advice. It may be better to apply as a new programme if the programme is significantly different.

Do the Assessors have access to my previous application when they assess the renewal?

No they don’t, so you need to re-tell your story in your application. Focus on the need for the training and provide the evidence to support it in the usual way. This will depend on your programme. For example, if you’ve had a long-standing talent shortage and have been running a graduate training scheme for a number of years to meet that need and that programme continues to give you the impact you want, then please provide metrics to show the impact over the number of years it’s been running. If the need for the programme has changed since you last received the PRTA, then focus on the changed need and provide comparative data to evidence that the need has been met.

Can I get access to a previous application to help me fill in the new application?

The PRTA team can help supply you with a previous application if it is useful. If you are not the person named on the original application we will need to speak with you to ensure we can release the information to you inline with GDPR and confidentiality policies.

Do you have any support for applicants looking to renew their Award?

Yes we have a specific ‘tea and chat’ session and the PRTA team are also available for phone calls and can answer questions by email too. They’ll refer you to an Assessor for further advice if needed.

Do organisations applying for renewal need to go through the Application Review Process (ARP) if they get through the online application stage?

Yes, the ARP will take place in the usual way and the Assessor Team will guide you through the process.

If successful, are renewals invited to receive the Award at a ceremony?

Yes, applicants are invited to the usual ceremony and receive the Award in the same way as the other recipients.
